3 Money Making Habits that Propelled Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Sara Blakely to the Billionaire Boys and Girls Club

What do Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Sara Blakely all have in common?

Well, a part from being an exclusive card-carrying member of the Billionaire Boys and Girls Club, all four remarkably share the same three traits of a postage stamp.

Let me explain.

I recently wrote a book titled, How a Postage Stamp Saved My Life: 21 Powerful Tips to Defeat Depression, Skyrocket Your Self-Confidence & Achieve Your Goals.

It’s a true story about my life. In 2008, my 59-year-old mother died from Stage 4 colon and liver cancer. That was a devastating blow to me since my mother was my best friend. After her death, I regularly contemplated taking my own life. I was working as a letter carrier at the time so every day I would see letters and postage stamps. So one day while I was having recurring thoughts of suicide, the thought of a postage stamp entered my mind. I thought all day about the purpose of that postage stamp.

Let me ask you, what comes to mind...

The Morning Miracle & You...The Postage Stamp Method

Consider the postage stamp. It wants to reach its destination as soon as postage stamply possible.  But inevitably it knows there will be bumps along the road. Knowing this ahead of time, it prepares itself. How? By sticking to a set routine. It inches itself to the front of the mail processing line as early as possible. In the wee hours of the morning, when most people are still asleep, the postage stamp is doing its thing. It is traveling and bumping against other boxes, inching its way closer and closer to the delivery driver.

If you’re this far along in the book, you are to be commended. I’ve just spent a lot of time talking to you about how to build your self-esteem and why delaying gratification will have success knocking on your door among other things. But in order to really get started, you need a system, a framework I dare say, that you can continually come back to when you feel down. It happens to the best of us. Remember, it’s resistance at work....

The Law of Paying Attention...The Postage Stamp Method

Consider the postage stamp. The postage stamp has sharp, laser focus. It does not get distracted. It has only one goal. It pays attention to what it must accomplish. At the end of its days, it will have engraved on its epitaph: “It secured its success through its ability to stick to one thing.”

When I interviewed author Darren Hardy, he said, that the greatest challenge today is controlling our attention. “We are living in an era of epic distraction," he said. "There is so much that begs for our attention. We are forever in reaction mode, whether it be to our inbox or social media accounts. But we must learn to be insanely focused.

“Some say that the problem is an overabundance of information. It’s not the overabundance of information, but the overconsumption of it that kills productivity.”

As Hardy points out, our brains can focus on just so many things at one time. That’s why having more than three goals at one time is confusing and...

The Pendulum Effect & You...The Postage Stamp Method

Consider the postage stamp. It knows that if it is to deliver happiness to its recipient, it must risk leaving the comfort of its family. It must leave the book of stamps it comes in in order to attain its ultimate purpose in life. It’s risky,  the unknown is scary, but there are no risks without great rewards.

When author of The Compound Effect Darren Hardy started in real estate at age 20, he was a complete novice. So, he compensated: At his first real estate seminar, he bravely asked the lecturer to lunch and asked for the man's best tip on being successful. The lecturer told him to go fail and do it often. Hardy was perplexed.

So, the man picked up his napkin and pulled out a pen. He wrote on the napkin that, “Life, growth, and achievement work like a pendulum. On one side you have failure, rejection, pain and sadness. But on the other side, you have success, victory, joy and happiness.”

Guess which side we have control over? Right: the side...
